Dr. Daolun Chen is a Professor

in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Ryerson

University, Toronto. He received his BSc and MSc from Northeastern University

in 1983 and 1986, respectively, PhD from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese

Academy of Sciences, 1989, and Dr.rer.nat. from the University of Vienna,

Austria, 1993. Dr. Chen has published 400 peer-reviewed journal (318) and

conference (82) papers including an invited “Advanced Engineering Materials

Hall of Fame” article, plus 196 non-refereed conference papers/research

reports. His pioneering work on nanocomposites leads to a well-known method

that bears his name, and is twice identified by the Council of Canadian

Academies to be one of the top 1% most highly cited papers in his field

worldwide. He is a recipient of a number of prestigious awards, including

Canadian Metal Physics Award, G.H. Duggan Medal, Premier’s Research

Excellence Award, MetSoc Award for Research Excellence, MetSoc Distinguished

Materials Scientist Award, and Sarwan Sahota Distinguished Scholar Award. Dr.

Chen is an elected Fellow of Canadian Academy of Engineering (FCAE), Fellow

of Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (FCIM), Fellow of

Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (FIMMM), and an Associate Editor

or Editorial Board Member of 28 journals, includingMaterials Research Letters,Materials

and Design
